It’s been a challenging year for Hollywood legend Bruce Willis and his fans. The 67-year-old actor publicly proclaimed he was diagnosed with aphasia.  It’s something that will limit or prevent his ability to act in movies because the language disorder causes problems with reading, speaking, and listening.

He’s stepped away from full-time acting, ending his four-decade career of making popular action films.

His retirement does not mean his fans won’t be able to watch him in future films, though, because he is the first star to sell his rights to the potential of a “digital twin.” Deepcake is the company that will use deepfake technology to have its likeness appear in future film projects.

Willis has already had his likeness used with digital media manipulation, appearing in a TV commercial for Megaton, a Russian phone service.

So here’s how the technology works. Powered by AI and machine learning, Deecake can use a person’s likeness and superimpose it over another actor, which will then “twin” that recognizable personality.

Willis sold the rights to his likeness, so he could make money in movies and future projects without learning lines or appearing on a set.

The Star Wars franchise has already used the technology in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Mandalorian.

This technology is going to allow actors who are dead to appear in new films.  It’s an unbelievable advancement and can keep popular franchises alive for decades.

John McClain might be able to save the world from terrorists on the Diehard franchise for years to come.
