DeSantis Says He Won’t Block Possible Extradition; Trump Hits Back Hard

The war of words between Trump and DeSantis are coming at us a mile a minute. Luckily you have Valuetainment here to help make sense of it all.

The opening salvo occurred on Saturday when former President Trump announced that he is expecting to be arrested.

DeSantis remained mum over the weekend. Pressure mounted for him to comment on the situation. Donald Trump Jr, tweeted, “Pay attention to which Republicans spoke out against this corrupt BS immediately and who sat on their hands and waited to see which way the wind was blowing.”

On Monday, DeSantis addressed the looming arrest, showed support and struck some blows. He called the whole investigation “politically motivated,” but uttered “paying hush money to a pornstar” twice in twelve seconds. He got a laugh from the audience.

DeSantis was asked if he could block extradition should Trump fall prey to charges. “I have no interest in getting involved in some type of manufactured circus by some Soros DA. He’s trying to do a political spectacle, I’ve got real issues I’ve got to deal with here in the state of Florida. We’re not getting involved in it in any way,” he said. Note his framing here. DeSantis seems to be wanting to have his cake and eat it too. He calls the investigation unwarranted, but calls the whole thing a distraction, and that it’s so dumb, it doesn’t require his attention. He kind of shrugs the whole thing off as a circus. DeSantis sidesteps responsibility essentially saying, if Trump is arrested, the charge is silly so why does it matter if he’s arrested or not? Therefore, according to DeSantis’s logic, who cares if he does anything to prevent it? Donald Trump Jr caught this attempted weave through.

Now today, Tuesday, Trump and allies came swinging back. On a TruthSocial post he wrote, ““Ron DeSanctimonious will probably find out about FALSE ACCUSATIONS & FAKE STORIES sometime in the future, as he gets older, wiser, and better known, when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are ‘underage’ (or possibly a man!). I’m sure he will want to fight these misfits just like I do!”

To be fair, under the Extradition Clause in the US Constitution, each state has to comply and get their resident to the proper place of indictment if dealing with “treason, felony or other crime”. And the Title 18 Criminal Code says that the indicting state has executive authority over the state the charged person is currently located in. In legal and constitutional terms, DeSantis can’t do a thing.

But note how he didn’t say that. It’s the easiest workaround and way to absolve himself of any responsibility. He could have simply said, “I would like to keep Trump in Florida, I think he deserves to stay here in our state, but I don’t have that power.”

But the Florida Governor won’t do that. He wants to stay in the fight, hoping Trump trips over himself, or turns voters off with unheterodox allusions to homosexuality. It might just be working.
