Colorado-based shoe manufacturer Crocs is mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore.
Their hideous, but popular line of casual shoes that are made from Crosite material, which is not plastic or rubber, but something in between, have been knocked off by over a dozen companies they believe.
So they are suing all of them.
The suite that was filed in Colorado alleges that a total of 21 businesses sold almost identical versions of their clogs at much cheaper prices.
In their crosshairs are some major U.S. retailers, including Walmart and Hobby Lobby.
Crocs said in the lawsuit that they have suffered and will continue to suffer irreparable harm to its reputation because of this these knockoffs.
Essentially Crocs drew a line in the sand and said our shoes are ugly, but we hold the patent on ugly when it comes.
At the forefront of the suit is the 3D marks at the top of the shoe, essentially the holes that are part of the look of a Crocs shoe.
Here’s more from the lawsuit.
“Given the virtually infinite number of different, non-infringing footwear styles in existence today, and which are available to other footwear companies, Crocs’ competitors do not have any actual competitive need to use the Crocs 3D Marks in commerce.”
Hey, no matter what people think of the style quotient of a pair of Crocs, they don’t deserve to be knocked off and cheapened.
