This is one of those stories that appear to have a whole lot more salacious details lurking in the background that has the potential to be mind-blowing when they eventually are revealed.

The Boston Celtics have suspended their head coach Ime Udoka for one full year, the entire 2022-23 season, for violations of team policies.

What exactly did he do? What we know so far is that he had an intimate, consensual relationship with a female member of the staff. That seems severe for not committing a crime, so there must be extenuating circumstances that warranted such a harsh punishment, especially when you consider how successful Udoka has been. He led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his first full year as head coach.

He issued a statement to ESPN.  Here’s part of it.

“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down. I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”

Wait, there’s more. Udoka’s suspension could last longer than a full year.  Here’s what the team said in a statement.

“A decision about his future with the Celtics beyond this season will be made at a later date.” If you read between the lines, it appears his days in Boson are done for good.

Udoka has problems on both coasts he has to deal with. On top of the fact he’s suspended for having an affair with a married woman in Boston, he has been in a relationship with actress Nia Long for the past 12 years. You may remember Long for her role in Boyz n the Hood in 1991.
