The San Francisco Giants are having a heck of a season. Sitting all alone in first place in the National League West, the team is poised for a great final month of games at Oracle Park and then potentially a long playoff run into October.
The only problem is their fans might not be able to by over-priced beer and $10 bottles of water.
Concession workers at the stadium the Giants play in voted to authorize a strike, and it could happen any day.
Why? Well, they live and work in the Bay Area, one of the most expensive places to live in the country, and they lost an entire year of wages because the pandemic shut down live crowds at stadiums during the 2020 season.
The union representing the workers has been negotiating with the Bon Appetit Management Company, the firm that owns the concessions contract, but talks have stalled.
Here’s part of a statement from Bon Appetit Management.
“We value our associates’ contributions and have always supported their right to organize. We look forward to working toward an agreement as soon as possible.”
Wow. You can see why negotiations are moving rather slow.
The Giants have 13 home game left. Then the playoffs begin on October 5.
The clock is ticking. Will the 22 oz. premium craft draft beer that goes for roughly $20 be available for Giants fans to chug on a chilly San Francisco night in late October?
Will that beer now cost $37 to make up for a pay increase for union workers?
Stay tuned.
