Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made a good point to an audience in New Hampshire. In the current field, no one candidate is planning on savaging Trump. This includes Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, and even Ron DeSantis, as we see his blueprint for how he’ll deal with Trump should he jump into the race.

Christie issued a call saying there needed to be a candidate to do to Trump what he “did to Marco Rubio.” Needless to say, that implication is, that candidate is him.

But Politico reports potential supporters are already brining up a clear conundrum. Christie could have ravaged Trump, just like he did with Marco Rubio, in the 2016 race, but didn’t.

Christie responded that with not knowing the lay of the land, he made a “strategic error,” but that he wouldn’t do it again. He would be the one to directly criticize Trump. Whether it be his policies, character, or potential legal issues.

Christie said he’s seriously thinking about entering the race, particularly if no other GOPer goes on the attack against Trump. He has about a month and a half timeline for a decision, but expect him to commit to jumping in.

And the former NH GOP Chair, looking to support Christie should he run, made another interesting selling point for Christie’s campaign.

“You have Trump, and you have the alternative to Trump. Once you start comparing his record in New Jersey with DeSantis’ record in Florida, you’re going to see a much more viable and effective leader than Governor DeSantis is. And I think that’s going to enable him to emerge as the alternative to President Trump.”

That may be the ticket, as farfetched as it might seem. Christie and DeSantis would both be scene as competent governors and viable Trump alternatives. With similar records, the difference is personality. While DeSantis seems overly rehearsed, scared, formal and robotic, Christie would get out of the gate swinging. It won’t endear him to Trump loyalists, but he’ll be seen as the only candidate, other than Trump, with some guts. He simply comes off as more ballsy, human and relatable than DeSantis.

Still, with Haley and Pence polling below 6%, is there room for anyone else? Maybe by differentiating fromt he others by attacking Trump non-stop, there may very well might be. Or his candidacy might yet again implode. We’ll keep you posted.
