Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not going to miss his shot … at becoming a giant in the tequila business.

The movie star launched his Teremana tequila brand back in March. He said his goal was to deliver a high-quality tequila at an affordable price, and it appears to be paying off. According to Forbes, Teremana is preparing to sell 300,000 nine-liter cases and ship nearly 400,000 cases in its first year.

According to Johnson, Teremana has “become the biggest launch in the history of the spirits business … of any spirit, ever.”

Johnson couldn’t resist the opportunity at a social-media smackdown by comparing his tequila to George Clooney’s. Casamigos, which Clooney started with his friends Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, sold in 2017 for reportedly close to $1 billion (and, at the time, drinking in sales of only 175,000 cases a year).

Aside from being the main celebrity ambassador behind the brand, Johnson helped craft the liquor from its taste to its name, which combines the Latin word for Earth and the Polynesian word “mana.”

“Our entire Teremana team and myself are quite pleased and humbled that the brand is experiencing this incredible, off-the-charts success,” said Johnson. “But we also recognize there’s so much more work to be done. We’re building a mana-fueled legacy brand and I’m in it for the long term.”

The groundbreaking and record numbers for his liquor business come as just the latest in a long line of successes for the former professional football player, retired professional wrestler, actor-producer and entrepreneur—and, not to forget, People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.”
