Karen McDonald, the prosecutor for Oakland County in Michigan did something Friday that many people feel should be happening much more frequently; she charged the parents of the teen accused of killing four students at a Michigan school with involuntary manslaughter and wants to lock them up.

McDonald said James and Jennifer Crumbley committed “egregious acts” that led to the horrible incident.

The details she laid out make the story even more disgusting, knowing that if the parents did what they are accused of, their failures as parents are beyond comprehension.

For one thing, the parents purchased the gun on Black Friday and made it available to the alleged killer, Ethan Crumbley. The gun was not locked up.

Secondly, the prosecutor accused the parents of failing to intervene when they were called to the school Tuesday to deal with their troubled kid.  School officials said they told the parents to get their son into counseling, yet he returned to class later that day with a gun and started firing at students as he walked down a hallway.

Here’s what a very incensed McDonald said at a press conference Friday.

“These charges are intended to hold the individuals who contributed to this tragedy accountable and also send the message that gun owners have a responsibility. When they fail to uphold that responsibility, there are serious and criminal consequences.”

Ethan Crumbley has been charged as an adult even though he’s 15-years old, and the county has hit him with two dozen charges.

As of 6:00 PM Eastern on Friday, the couple has not turned themselves in to authorities like they said they would, and there is an active search that involves US Marshals trying to find and apprehend them.
