Bill Belichick is an interesting individual. Talk to people in his inner circle, and they will say he can be funny. He’s captivating. He has an actual personality and isn’t the condescending, bland, awkward, know-it-all football savant he appears to be.  I find his career and his chase for becoming the all-time winningest coach in NFL history to be so fascinating because, quite frankly, he’s overrated.

One of, if not the most over-rated football coach in NFL history. Will he pass Don Shula and have that honor and recognition of having more wins than any NFL coach ever in the near future? Yes, almost certainly, but the award should come with an asterisk the size of a Lombardi Trophy because some of the things he has done without Tom Brady by his side to bail him out are baffling.

This past season his New England Patriots did not have an offensive coordinator.  Do you know how arrogant and delusional you would have to be as a coach to make that decision? It’s grounds for firing because, from day one, you are putting your team at a disadvantage every minute. It is no different than a NASCAR team trying to win the Daytona 500, but instead of having a pit team that knows how to change tires, they have a barber shop quartet in the pits.

The team finished 8-9, missed the playoffs, and they can thank the less-than-mediocre offense for their problems. Belichick had two sycophants,  both epic failures as NFL head coaches, who shared the responsibilities of running the offense. Matt Patricia, a respected defensive coordinator most famous for tucking a pencil behind his ear during games, teamed with Joe Judge,  who will go down as the worst head coach the New York Giants ever had and is so bland and uncharismatic that he makes Belichick seem like a combination of Bill Clinton and Chris Rock.

The Boston Herald said quarterback Mac Jones essentially hated Judge, who was also the quarterback coach. The two would engage in “profanity-laced outbursts.” Belichick would scream at Judge during practice too.

Belichick brought it on himself. He’s chosen to show the world how dependent he was on Brady for his success. His career record without TB is 79-87.

How could he not be considered over-rated?
