The state of California continues to make it clear that there is nothing it loves more than issuing mandates. The newest guidelines are directed at the upcoming holiday season and leave very little room for anyone to actually enjoy themselves.

The recently released policy by California’s Health and Human Services Agency starts by saying, “All persons planning to host or participate in a private gathering, as defined above, must comply with the following requirements. Local health jurisdictions may be more restrictive than this guidance. Refer to your local guidance for what is allowed in your area.”

The guidelines go on to say that state residents should have all their gatherings outside, and the only time people should go inside is to use the restroom. They also instruct you to sanitize your restroom frequently and limit all gatherings to two hours or less. Seating must also have 6 feet of distance between different households. And if you’re looking to sing Christmas carols? Well, then, you better do so “quietly,” according to the state.

The release, titled “Guidance for Private Gatherings,” also says that gatherings “with more than 3 households are prohibited.” The host of the party is also instructed to “collect names of all attendees and contact information in case contact tracing is needed later.”

All the information and the full release can be found on the California Health and Human Services website at www.chhs.ca.gov.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has said the new rules recognize the increasing pressure on get-togethers among friends and relatives over the upcoming holiday season. Newsom continues to draw harsh criticism for his heavy-handed approach to lockdowns and reopening.

No word yet on Newsom’s plans for Californians for New Year’s Eve, but he should be a big fan of that midnight kiss with strangers.
