Nikki Fried is the new Chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party. She ran against Charlie Crist in the primary to see who would get walloped by Governor Ron DeSantis. Fried ran to Crist’s left, saying the party needed someone more progressive and younger to be their nominee.
She won a close race to be her party’s chair just a handful of weeks ago, and she’s off to a running start.
Fried was commenting on the Florida governor’s efforts to ban overly pornographic books in school libraries. DeSantis tweeted an example of one such book, a graphic novel, giving readers detailed instructions on how to safely insert and enjoy a butt plug (yes, you read that right!). This book was available to check out for kids as young as seven years old.

In reality, she owned herself. The opposition of the book banning from Dems and left leaning media claim that these books, such as the butt plug one, are appropriate for older school age children exploring their sexual identity.
One user on reddit had a most fascinating defense for the book being available to kids (this is not a troll post):
And Salon.com writes, “Digging into the complaints, it becomes clear that, despite lots of hysteria about ‘depictions of sexual activity’ in books meant for nearly adult readers, the real objections are centered around the acknowledgment that racism is real or that LGBTQ people exist.”
