Is there a day when Bill Gates does not either speak to a reporter, hold a press conference or do something else to get his name in the paper? The Microsoft co-founder loves handing out his expert opinion. Name a topic; farming. Global warming. Technology. Huge yachts. Today he’s talking about the most revolutionary advance in technology since the modern graphical desktop environment launched 43 years ago.

Thoughts on what he thinks it is? ChatGPT, Gates is a big fan.

A blog post by Gates details how Gates challenged the OpenAI team last year to have something specific as a benchmark. He wanted them to create an AI model that could pass the Advanced Placement Biology exam.

Guess what? They did it. GPT-4, the latest AI model from OpenAI, took the test and aced it. That got Gates flat-out giddy.

“The whole experience was stunning. I knew I had just seen the most important advance in technology since the graphical user interface.”

He continued the post and raved about AI in general.

“The development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone. It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. Entire industries will reorient around it. Businesses will distinguish themselves by how well they use it.”

One reason for Bill’s fondness might be that Microsoft invested $10 billion into OpenAI.
