Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden would only declare optimism when he emerged late Tuesday night to greet a drive-in rally in Wilmington, Del.
Biden stopped short of saying he has won the presidential election with critical votes still being counted in battleground states, but he shared his confidence about a forthcoming victory to supporters.
“Your patience is commendable,” Biden said to honking vehicles with his wife, Jill, at his side. “We knew this was going to go long, but who knew we were going to go into tomorrow, maybe even longer. But, look, we feel good about where we are. We really do. I’m here to tell you that we believe we’re on track to win this election.” Biden repeated the sentiments on Twitter.
Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania remained in play Wednesday morning with President Donald Trump’s camp also holding out hope for Arizona, although Fox News called it for Biden on Tuesday night.
Biden told supporters that he felt “really good” about Wisconsin and Michigan and that “we’re going to win Pennsylvania.” At that time, Biden was trailing in Michigan and Wisconsin, but he took the lead in both states Wednesday morning as more ballots were counted. Trump was holding his lead in Pennsylvania. “We’re winning Pennsylvania by a tremendous amount,” Trump said at his early morning appearance in the White House.
Biden was ahead of Trump for a speech, but can he be ahead of Trump in the final tallies? “Keep the faith, guys. We’re going to win this,” Biden said to close his speech.
