With concern growing that President Biden hasn’t been hard enough of China, congressional Democrats are moving ahead with a TikTok ban as the president stalls.

The newest bill would give President Biden new, strengthened powers to regulate the app. That way, Biden would have less of a defense as he waffles back and fourth amidst pressure from both parties.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, spearheading the bill, said that  he was frustrated the White House hadn’t come up with a solution to the growing problem.

The bill itself appears to be a bipartisan one. Sponsors include six Democrats and five Republicans.

President Biden announced a national security review of TikTok way back in December. In what would be expected to take a month, the administration has yet to conclude the investigation, where it’s rumored to have been stalled by internal clashing within the administration.

With over 100 million users, supporters of the bill feel that data and personal information could be compromised by the Chinese government. They could use the information to control trade, economics, and a myriad of other issues facing the United States. It serves as a bargaining chit.

Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, a Republican, feels that the bill doesn’t go far enough. He introduced a bill to just outurun ban the app, thereby leapfrogging the Biden administration. Still, the president has expressed his support for the bill, but he could just be saving face.
