Fans and critics have expressed outrage at the CMA’s decision, noting Beyoncé’s significant contributions to the genre and her efforts to honor country music’s Black roots. This snub comes eight years after her controversial performance at the 2016 CMA Awards, which sparked backlash and discussions about race in country music.

Beyoncé has stated that ‘Cowboy Carter’ was born out of her experiences of feeling unwelcome in the country music community. Despite the snub, her album has been praised for paving the way for new Black country artists.
