President-elect Joe Biden unveiled his plan to fight the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday, saying “masking, vaccinations, opening schools. These are the three key goals of my first 100 days.”

One of the first things he’s going to do is make it a federal law that masks are mandatory in federal buildings and interstate travel on planes and buses. “We’re going to require masks wherever possible,” he said.

He is encouraging people to set their own household laws requiring masks, as he believes it will help get life back to normal in the U.S. “Whatever your politics or point of view, mask up for 100 days after we take office. A hundred days to make a difference. Its not a political statement — it’s a patriotic act.”

As for the reopening of schools, Biden said something that’s hard to argue with. “It should be a national priority to get our kids back into school and keep them in school.”

But reading between the lines, and hearing further comments by Biden, it becomes much less clear if he will actually make that lofty but necessary goal happen. “If Congress provides the funding we need to protect students, educators and staff, and if states and cities put strong public health measures in place that we all follow, then my team will work to see that the majority of our schools can be open by the end of my first 100 days.”

Okay, I guess we’ll all wait and see.
