Wednesday morning was a nightmare not only for Bank of America but its customers as well. Twitter and other social media platforms were flooded with complaints that bank accounts were suddenly in the red or money was missing. Customers’ panic was heightened after many reported they could not get through to customer service. For some missing a few hundred dollars won’t put you in the red, but if you’re a part of the 63% of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, a few missing dollars can be devastating.

Where did the money go?

While many customers could not get through to customer service, the financial institution eventually sent a message through the app saying, “Zelle transactions made between January 14 and January 17 may be delayed in occurring and posting to accounts as requested. Transfers will be completed and appear in your activity and balances as soon as possible. We apologize for any delay or inconvenience.” A time frame of when the issue would be resolved was never given. The financial institution’s Twitter pages have yet to provide any updates. 

Best Banks to Use

The Bank of America disaster convinced us to look for banking alternatives. We found a ranking of the best banks to use. The number one bank overall was Chase. According to BankBonus.com, Citi bank is best for savings, US Bank is best for low fees, and if you want better customer service or experience, customers choose Capital One or TD Bank. Despite Wednesday’s glitch, Bank of America made the list for best online banking.

Rule to remember

Financial experts at Experian say never put all your money into one bank. If your account balances exceed the deposit limit that the FDIC insures, some of your money may not be protected if the bank fails. Having all your money in one place is also more devastating if you’re a fraud victim.
