Apple is gearing up for something big, they hope, in 2024.  And man, they could use a hit. It’s the foldable iPad coming soon to a store near you.  Does that mean a foldable iPhone in the near future? Don’t get distracted by that; here’s what an Apple analyst said about the new design of the iPad.

“I’m positive about the foldable iPad in 2024 and expect this new model will boost shipments and improve the product mix.”

The iPad will probably be the test run needed before they get people excited about a foldable phone. That’s what Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, said in a CNBC story.

“Right now, it doesn’t make sense for Apple to make a foldable iPhone. We think they will shun that trend and probably dip a toe in the water with a foldable iPad.”

Word is that the iPad will have a carbon fiber kickstand. Oh, one more thing; it will fold.

The story about the iPad could be cover for what will happen much sooner, as in Thursday of this week. That’s when Apple is set to report earnings, and analysts are expecting the first revenue decline since 2019.

How and why? Well, blame it on the troubles at their iPhone assembly plants in China. They were shut down for weeks during covid lockdowns.

The word on Wall Street is that the revenue number is expected to be $121 billion in the December quarter, down from $123.9 during the same quarter a year ago.

iPhone shipments were down 18% in the fourth quarter, and the PC market dropped almost 30%.
