Another day of hand counting ballots and another story of discovering a batch of missing ballots. This time the story comes from Georgia, where around 2,600 ballots were found uncounted in a rural county.
The ballots were not previously uploaded, and the error was found when workers discovered the uncounted ballots during the hand recount audit. The previously uncounted ballots ended up being tallied up as 1,643 for Trump and 865 for Biden. The roughly 800 vote difference closed the gap slightly in the state where Joe Biden now leads by about 13,300 votes.
The gaffe continues to feed into the narrative by the Trump administration that the election was marred by fraud.
The 2,600 votes from Floyd County, Georgia, were apparently missed when someone failed to upload a memory card containing electric counts of those votes on Election Day. State election official Gabriel Sterling said the uncounted ballots were not a result of a machine malfunction. “There were no issues with any of the equipment; they just didn’t scan these ballots, it looks like, or the card was not put through properly,” Sterling remarked.
According to Sterling, the Georgia Secretary of State’s office asked Floyd County elections director Robert Brady to step down following the discovery saying, “because this was too important of an issue to have allowed to happen this way.”
Sterling also announced that the state of Georgia was in the process of creating a website to publish data on the recount results in an effort to be transparent. The state is expected to complete the hand recount by Wednesday, Nov. 18.
