There’s just something about Will Ferrell on the big screen; darn near any role he plays, it’s hard not to laugh. From Anchorman when he played Ron Burgundy, or Mugatu in Zoolander, or the completely underrated Mattress Salesman in The Internship,  Ferrell was the king of comedies for a long time.

In his next role, he is set to play someone that might surprise you — iconic NFL coach, broadcaster, and pop culture icon John Madden.  The movie is set to be centered on Madden’s life after coaching when his career really took off.

He was the number one NFL analyst and the figurehead of the Madden NFL series. One of the film’s producers is the co-owner of the New York Giants, Steve Tisch, giving it multiple tie-ins to the NFL.

There are numerous Madden projects in various stages of release, including the biopic series Tom Brady and his production company 199 Productions announced they were working on.

Sports movies are nothing new to Ferrell. He appeared in Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, and Semi-Pro.
