President Trump appeared at a Washington, DC rally Wednesday and told a throng of supporters that he will not concede an election he’s convinced was stolen from him.
“We will never concede. It doesn’t happen … we will not take it anymore. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved,” Trump said. “We will not take it anymore … we will stop the steal.”
Trump made those remarks about an hour before the Joint Session of Congress was set to convene. That’s where the real drama potentially could play out, as lawmakers were scheduled to count electoral votes from each state.
“We do not want to see our election victory stolen by radical-left Democrats, that’s what they’re doing, and stolen by the fake news media, that’s what they’ve done and what they’re doing,” Trump added.
President Trump has put an extreme amount of pressure on Vice President Mike Pence to not read the electoral college votes for Joe Biden in some swing states. Trump’s message on Twitter was not subtle as far as what he wanted his VP to do.
“States want to correct their votes, which they now know were based on irregularities and fraud, plus corrupt process never received legislative approval,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “All Mike Pence has to do is send them back to the States, AND WE WIN. Do it, Mike, this is a time for extreme courage!”
Pence chose not to side with Trump, saying he won’t block Congress from affirming Joe Biden’s win. “Only lawmakers can decide today.”
Trump’s comments about never conceding may mean he will continue to speak of alleged fraud all the way to Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
