It doesn’t take much for a new President to wipe away accomplishments of their predecessor. Usually it’s a single signature on an executive order, and newly sworn-in President Joe Biden put his pen to work as soon as he got his favorite chair situated in the Oval Office.
One of Biden’s first official actions as president involved signing more than a dozen executive orders. Included in his stack of orders was introducing a mask mandate on all federal property. Biden has stressed repeatedly during the campaign, and then during the transition that the coronavirus pandemic would be his top priority.
Biden also signed an order to halt construction of a wall along the U.S. Mexico border, one of President Trump’s most high profile pet projects, and one he touted from the very first day he announced his candidacy back in 2015.
Biden also signed an order that recommitted the United States to the WHO (World Health Organization).
Another initial executive order President Biden signed was one that put the U.S. back into the Paris Accord.
All of these orders reversed President Trump’s decisions to essentially do the exact opposite. with all of these issues.
On Biden’s first day, he was also asked about the letter that Trump left for him, as is tradition for departing presidents to do for the new leader of the free world. Biden called it a “generous” letter, but would not go into further detail he said until he spoke to Trump about it personally.
