We already know 60% of America will be OBESE by 2030, so this doesn’t come as much of a shock.

73% of adults in America are “overweight,” according to the CDC.

A new study has found that 70% of college students gain weight and body fat by graduation.

The weight gain is due to the late-night snacking, fattening dorm meals, and a lack of exercise.

Not to mention, all the partying, drinking, and lack of access to a kitchen doesn’t help.

The study examined weight changes during 4 years of college, however, researchers suggest that this could be a bigger health threat than parents, students, or scientists realized.

Researchers at Auburn University followed 131 students over the course of 4 years in college and found that an astounding 70% of them gained weight by the time they graduated. The average weight gain was between 12 and 37 pounds.

The overall % of students found to be overweight increased from 18% to 31%.

Social media also has an impact on young peoples’ mental health, according to a recent survey.

Statista

44% of college students reported having symptoms of depression and anxiety

We know that the food we consume impacts our physical and mental well-being, and unfortunately, many college-aged students report feeling depressed and anxious. There is a direct correlation between the way food we consume and the way we feel.

Watching what we eat is not only important for staying healthy, but also for our own peace of mind.

It is especially important for those who struggle with their mental health to watch the foods they are consuming.

The close connection between diet and emotions stems from the close relationship between your brain and your gastrointestinal tract, often called the “second brain.”
