Who would have thought that the Bible would be such a great resource for financial tips…

Does your church teach financial literacy in relation to Bible verses?

1. Proverbs 13:11

“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”

Nothing done in haste is good.

As an example, overloading oneself with various projects will make it very difficult to achieve goals and accomplish work thoroughly, with great attention to detail.

In the case of building wealth, it’s important to understand that it takes time, and doesn’t happen overnight.

Wealth requires consistent effort, hard work, and the commitment that you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals and biggest dreams.

64% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck.

2. Matthew 6:21

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Essentially, follow your passion, and wealth will naturally flow to you.

You should always pursue a career path that speaks to your heart and soul because that is where you will have the ability to be the most innovative and creative.

Whether you’re strategizing a new product or service, a marketing campaign, or your next big partnership, if passion is at the root of your dreams, the results will naturally follow.

3. Proverbs 22:7

“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrow is the slave of the lender.”

Ain’t that the truth! Money is power.

“The borrow is the slave of the lender,” literally means: “Debt-Slaves.”

Our institutions have successfully created millions of debt slaves. Higher education (college), is one of the core culprits of the creation of “debt-slaves.”

In fact, 43.4 million people have federal student loan debt.

The outstanding federal loan balance is over $1.606 trillion and accounts for 91.2% of all student loan debt.

Those who cannot manage their finances will struggle to be successful and wealthy.

4. Proverbs 10:4

“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”

This basically means, don’t be lazy. Work hard, set goals, and never give up until you achieve whatever it is you set your mind to.

To be diligent means to “show care and conscientiousness in one’s work or duties.”

Well, would you look at that! The Bible says that those who are thorough, attentive to detail, and passionate will be rich.

That sounds about right to me!

5. Deuteronomy 28:12

“The LORD will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

Interesting. Again, the Bible repeats, DO NOT BORROW MONEY. Meaning, don’t get a loan.

Of course, there are smart ways to do things and not-so-smart ways to do things. Borrowing money isn’t always a bad idea if you do it the right way.

Unfortunately, most Americans struggle to manage their finances, and borrowing money tends to lead them down the wrong path.

Nearly 6 in 10 Americans don’t have enough savings to cover a $500 or $1,000 unplanned expense.

Give and you will receive (law of reciprocity). This verse implies that with God, “the Universe,” or “Source,” the possibilities to succeed and do well in life are infinite.

God or “The Universe,” has given each of us our own unique “gifts,” or “passions,” which will allow us to succeed. Once you find your passion, run with it and never stop until you achieve your biggest goals in life and you will succeed.

6. 1 Timothy 6:9

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”

Many people do corrupt things to achieve their wealth. You don’t have to look far to see this.

Corruption has infiltrated every aspect of society and its core institutions, which include the government, media, education, religion (ironically), and the family unit.

Money is very tempting to people. Many are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve wealth, which is a great attitude, as long as you’re not harming society and doing evil things…

7. Proverbs 28:22

“A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know that poverty will come upon him.”

In order to make money, you have to be willing to give.

Those who want to be wealthy need to understand the power of giving.

Some might call this “the law of reciprocity,” meaning, you reap what you sow. If you give, you will receive.

Someone who is cheap and afraid of giving fails to realize that they are prohibiting their own growth and success.

8. Proverbs 16:16

“How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”

There is no greater gift in life than knowledge.

This verse is essentially saying that gaining wisdom is more valuable than receiving gold (money).

It also implies that those who have the ability to understand, are blessed beyond measure, more so than those who simply have materialistic possessions or money.

Those who are gifted with the blessing of understanding should be grateful, for they have been given a treasure more valuable and prized than money or materialistic things.

9. Proverbs 14:23

“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.”

This is the ancient, holy version of “ALL TALK, NO ACTION!”

Toil means hard work or labor.

This verse implies that those who work hard will profit, and those who simply talk (about their ideas and goals) and never follow through will be led to poverty.

Work hard and never give up. Success doesn’t happen overnight.

Be consistent in the work you do and create a plan for action that will help you achieve your goals.

Fact: 45% of Americans have NOTHING ($0) in their savings accounts.

If you want to build wealth, SAVE! Don’t spend money aimlessly.

10. Acts 8:20

“May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!”

Many powerful, wealthy people believe they are so powerful that they are above the law…

(And truthfully, they kinda are in this world, for now 😉)

This verse is quoted by the Apostle Peter who says that those who believe they may enter God’s kingdom simply because of their wealth are wrong to believe such.

The Apostle Peter said this in response to Simon Magus (“Simon the Magician” or “The Sorcerer”) who after becoming a Christian, offered to purchase the supernatural power of transmitting the Holy Spirit from the Apostles Peter and John, thus giving rise to the term simony (the buying or selling of sacred things or ecclesiastical office).

Always stay humble as you build your wealth and become successful.
